A new poll of Missouri’s U.S. Senate race provides further proof that the Jim Talent-Claire McCaskill contest is about as close as any race in the country. The Rasmussen Reports survey, conducted last week, involved 500 respondents. It shows incumbent Republican Senator Talent with the backing of 46 percent of those surveyed, compared to 44 percent who support Democrat challenger McCaskill. The previous Rasmussen Reports poll, taken in July, showed McCaskill with a 45-42 percent edge among those surveyed. In nine of the ten Missouri polls conducted by Rasmussen Reports during the current election cycle, the candidates have been within three points of each other nine times – meaning the contest is a statistical tie. Pollster Scott Rasmussen points to the importance of this election, saying, “If Talent keeps his job, the Republicans keep control of the Senate. A McCaskill victory could signal a long night for the GOP.”
