Symington Takes Oath as Ambassador to Djibouti

August 19, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

St. Louis native W. Stuart Symington IV has been sworn in as the new United States Ambassador to Djibouti, a country in the horn of Africa with fewer people than St. Louis County. He’s the grandson of former Missouri Senator Stuart Symington. But Djibouti is important strategically because it has the only American military base on the African continent. Symington has worked with the State Department for 20 years. He and his wife, a former St. Joseph resident, will move to Djibouti at the end of the month.
