Coach Gary Pinkel released the depth chart for his Missouri Tiger football team. Most position starters were set before the chart was released, but there were some reserve questions that had to be addressed.
Chase Daniel cemented his job as the starting quarterback. The sophomore will have his work cut out for him trying to replace fan-favorite Brad Smith. Daniel is no Smith when it comes to making plays with his feet, but he is mobile and can throw extremely well. He saw action in his freshman year with mostly positive results. Senior Brandon Coleman won the battle for the backup quarterback spot. Sophomore Chase Patton is the third-stringer.
One of the most interesting battles all summer was at the punter position. Senior Matt Hoenes got the nod for the starting spot ahead of Adam Crossett.
No freshmen are listed to start for the Tigers, but true freshman Jared Perry is posted as the second wide receiver behind junior Will Franklin. Perry has been impressive throughout camp. So has fellow freshman Danario Alexander, but he’s only listed at third string wide receiver.
Running back Marcus Woods came into camp as the starter but a foot injury caused him to miss some practice time. Woods’ injury opened the door for Kansas City native Tony Temple to resume the starter role.
