Royals Sweep Boston

August 11, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals tallied 10 extra-base hits in their 5-4 win over the Red Sox.

Emil Brown homered in the sixth inning to help Kansas City complete the three-game sweep. All 10 hits came against Red Sox starter Curt Schilling. Ryan Shealy’s go-ahead hit in the eighth was the only Royals single.

Boston was well on their way to ending their four-game losing streak, leading 4-2 going into the bottom of the eighth. Mike Sweeney started the rally with a one-out double. Followed by RBI doubles from Mark Teahen and Reggie Sanders, the Royals tied the game just in time for Shealy’s minor heroics.

The Red Sox head back to Fenway Park after a 1-5 road trip that includes series losses to Tampa Bay and KC – the two worst teams in the American League.

Reliever Andrew Sisco got the win after giving up a hit in one inning. Ambiorix Burgos slammed the door in the ninth to get his 18th save of the year.
