Three precincts remain to be counted and though Representative Jack Jackson of Wildwood has narrowed the lead, he hasn’t been able to overtake Sandra Thomas in the Republican Primary for State Auditor. With 3,689 of 3,692 precincts reporting, Thomas has 86,681 votes to Jackson’s 84,963 votes, a margin of 1,718. Results from St. Louis County have been extremely slow in coming in, despite assurances they would be tallied early in the afternoon. Thomas at one time held a 15,000-vote lead on Jackson, but Jackson narrowed the lead considerably when St. Louis County votes were counted. Indications from the Jackson camp are that Jackson will request a recount. The margin is well within the one percent threshold needed to automatically trigger a recount upon the candidate’s request. Neither Thomas nor Jackson have been speaking to the news media.
