She was originally from Brooklyn, New York, but she became a leading citizen of Chesterfield. Betty Jane Hathaway has died at the age of 75 of complications from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Hathaway lived in Chesterfield for 36 years. She became worried about commercial development and became involved in city affairs, eventually leading to the petition drive that resulted in Chesterfield’s incorporation in 1988.
