The Royals signed their No. 1 overall draft pick Luke Hochevar, Thursday. If the team’s pitching staff continues the way they have this season, it might not be long before Hochevar is seen at Kaufmann Stadium.

Royals starter Jorge De La Rosa lasted just 1.1 innings before he was yanked from the game, already having surrendered six runs – five earned – and walking four batters. The bullpen stopped a hemorrhaging of runs, but did allow a steady flow, as Todd Wellemeyer and Leo Nunez allowed two runs – one earned – in 7.2 innings of relief.

Offensively, the Royals only managed four hits. Leadoff hitter David DeJesus recorded two hits, while Joey Gathright and Mark Grudzielanek split the two others.

Luis Castillo, Justin Morneau, and Josh Rabe each had two hits. Rabe had a homer, Morneau drove in three runs.
