The Royals and White Sox played a tight game, Wednesday night, but it was the umpires that left the fans on the edge of their seats.

Heavy rain poured down on Kauffman Stadium, causing officials to suspend the game in the eighth inning with the home team one hit shy of earning fans a dozen free donuts. Anytime the Royals get 12 hits in a home game, Krispy Kreme awards all attending fans a dozen free donuts.

Luckily for fans, the rain let up, the game resumed and the Royals finished with 13 hits and a 7-3 win. Newly acquired first baseman Ryan Shealy had three hits for the winners. Mark Teahen hit a homer and drove in three runs.

Starter Luke Hudson pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits to earn the win.

The Twins come to town tonight for a four-game series.
