Pierre Strikes Against Cardinals

July 29, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Juan Pierre hit a bases loaded triple that sparked a six-run fourth inning, as the Cubs held on to beat the Cardinals 6-5.

Pierre’s hit came after the Cardinals took a 3-0 lead early looked like they might seize control of the game. St. Louis dropped to 3-8 against the Cubs this season. Including trips to the south side to play the White Sox, the Cardinals are winless in eight attempts on the road in the Windy City.

Starter Jason Marquis took the loss after giving up six runs – three earned – on eight hits in 3.2 innings.

Despite a 21-22 record in the division, the Cardinals still lead the National League Central by 3.5 games over the Reds.
