Rockaway Beach Still After Casino

July 26, 2006 By admin

Rockaway Beach appears to be gearing up for another run at changing the state constitution so it can have a casino. A Detroit developer has submitted a proposal. The city is working on a contract with the company. If the city approves the deal, a petition drive would be started to put a proposed amendment on the ballot in November of 2008. Rockaway Beach’s first effort to change the constitution failed two years ago when 56% of Missouri voters rejected the idea. Rockaway Beach is located in southwest Missouri, next to Branson. Branson business leaders say they’ll oppose any new effort, as they did the one in 2004.
