The River City Rascals will be under new ownership come September. The PS and J Professional Baseball Club LLC has agreed to purchase the team and is scheduled to resume everyday duties Sept. 22.

The new ownership group, headed by Steve Malliet, says they will try to keep the team in O’Fallon despite chronically low attendance.

Malliet has a deep background in minor league baseball. He got his start in 1993 when he was the general manager of the Appleton Foxes/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the Mariners organization. He then went on to be the corporate sales manager for the Brewers. In 1998 helped the Braves move their Class A team from Durham to Myrtle Beach. Three years later, he joined the Joliet JackHammers of the Northern League where he currently acts as the general manager.

A press conference will be held to announce the purchase at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in a couple of weeks.
