As the U.S. Senate debates and votes in a favor of a bill supporting federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Claire McCaskill weighs in on the issue. In a conference call with reporters, McCaskill praised Senators who support the legislation, saying they are working for cures to some of the nation’s most debilitating diseases. McCaskill says it would be short-sighted for the country to turn its back on this medical research right now. She adds it would dash the hopes of millions of Americans hoping for the development of cures. President Bush has threatened a veto of the bill – the first veto of his presidency. McCaskill says a presidential veto would say no to families, patients, doctors and researchers waiting for cures.
