Chris Carpenter pitched the first shutout by a Cardinals pitcher this season against the Dodgers last week. For that effort, he was named the National League player of the week.
Carpenter’s complete-game shutout performance yielded just two hits while striking out seven and leaving the NL’s best offense looking dumbfounded.
Last year’s Cy Young winner, Carpenter now has 10 shutouts under his belt, half of those with the Cards.
