Jeff Weaver did little to erase Sidney Ponson from the minds of Cardinals fans. And that says a lot considering Ponson only lasted half a disappointing season in St. Louis.

Weaver’s Cardinal debut wasn’t anything worth remembering as the right hander gave up six runs in four innings. He allowed two home runs including a grand slam to Brian McCann that opened the floodgates in a 15-3 loss to the Braves.

Wilson Betemit went 4-for-6 with five RBI. Chipper Jones extended his hitting streak to 17 games. He came into the contest one game shy of the major league record for consecutive games with an extra base hit, but three singles brought that streak to a close.

The Braves hit four home runs in all. Betemit, McCann, and Adam LaRoche (4-for-4) gave fans a souvenir. Even reliever Jorge Sosa got into the act homering off of Josh Kinney.

Horacio Ramirez started and won the game for Atlanta allowing one run on two hits in five innings.
