Soccer could be coming to St. Louis soon. Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber is expected to visit the Gateway City today to meet with the group looking to bring a team to the city.
The decision hinges mostly on whether St. Louis will be able to get a new stadium built for the team to play its home games. As of now, there is no facility fit to house an MLS team. Some teams within the league play their games at interim sites until new stadiums are built, but St. Louis doesn’t possess such a place.
If the MLS doesn’t decide to bring a franchise to St. Louis, don’t expect Blues Owner Dave Checketts to move his Real Salt Lake soccer team to the Midwest. Checketts says he’ll sell the team if he doesn’t get a new stadium deal in Utah.
