Chris Carpenter reverted back to his Cy Young ways shutting down the National League’s best offense in a 5-0 Cardinals win, Friday.
Carpenter, who was voted to the All-Star Game despite a marginal first half, baffled the Dodger hitters throwing a complete-game, two-hit shutout.
David Eckstein had four hits in the game, falling just one short of becoming the first Cardinal to have a five-hit game since former Bird Edgar Renteria did it in 2004.
Chris Duncan hit a two-run homer in a three-run third inning for the Cardinals. Juan Encarnacion added a solo homer of his own in the eighth.
St. Louis has won five in a row and will look to make it six when Jeff Suppan takes the mound in Game 3 of the series, Saturday.
