One of the state’s most successful high school basketball coaches has been fired. Vashon High School Coach Floyd Irons was dismissed by the St. Louis School Board in a closed special meeting Tuesday. The action comes after an internal audit revealed that the Vashon basketball program had mishandled thousands of dollars. The president of the school board declined comment, insisting that the move is in the best interest of the children of the district. Irons led Vashon to 10 state championships during a 33-year career.
