Timothy Flint, a minister at Lunenburg, Massachusetts, had not had a raise for twelve years, perhaps because his congregation was accustomed to sectarian preaching and didn’t appreciate his nonsectarian methods. When Flint left, the Presbyterian Missionary Society of Connecticut sent him to Kentucky and Ohio. Flint, however, decided while in Cincinnati that the church really needed him in Missouri. It did not matter to Flint that the society already had Salmon Giddings as its missionary here.
