The Springfield Cardinals broke open a 5-5 game with three runs in the eighth inning as they knocked off Tulsa 8-5, completing a five-game sweep Sunday.
Normally a starter, Reid Gorecki, expected to have Sunday off to rest his tired body. Things never work the way you think they will. It was Gorecki’s pinch-hit single that drove in two runs and put the Cardinals ahead for good in the eighth. Kevin Estrada followed Gorecki with an RBI double to cap the inning. Estrada finished with three RBIs.
Jarrett Hoffpauir and Amaury Marti both drove in runs for Springfield and Cody Haerther went 3-for-3 and scoring four runs.
Reliever Justin Garza got the win pitching two scoreless innings. Mark Worrell earned his 21st save of the year.
