The Cardinals guaranteed themselves at least a share of the National League Central lead when they head into next week’s All-Star break. St. Louis remains two games ahead of the second place Reds with two games left before the break. Every time it looks like they’re going to give up their lead in the division, the Cards bounce back in time to get a win. Starter Jason Marquis shut down the Houston offense, lasting 7.2 innings and allowing just two runs on six hits leading the Redbirds to an 8-2 win, Friday.
The Cardinals will try to extend their division lead this afternoon against Houston. “The Rocket”, Roger Clemens, will make his 1st appearance against the Birds this year. He’ll face rookie Anthony Reyes.
