No Missouri teams made it to the NCAA Division-1 Men’s Basketball Tournament last year, so the NCAA brought the tournament to Missouri instead.
Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner, Doug Elgin, announced that St. Louis will host the Midwest Regional during the 2010 tournament. The games will be held March 25 and 27 at the Edward Jones Dome.
St. Louis was the site of the 2005 Men’s Final Four that saw North Carolina walk away champions. Since 1998, the Gateway City has hosted nine NCAA basketball events including: one men’s Final Four, two women’s Final Fours, and five regionals.
Salt Lake City, Syracuse, and Houston will be the other three sites for the 2010 regionals.
Not to be outdone, Kansas City also received some NCAA love. The Sprint Center will play host to the men’s first and second round games in 2009 as well as the women’s regional semi-finals and finals the following year.
It’ll be the first time the Sprint Center has housed such an event but not the first time Kansas City has seen the tournament. Kemper Arena was home of the 2004 first and second round games for the men’s tourney.
The women’s tournament played some of their regional games at Municipal Auditorium last year.
Earlier this year, the Big 12 decided to hold its 2008 conference tournament in Kansas City.
