The popular ones from big schools still haven’t signed yet. No Thomas Gardner, Jimmy McKinney, or any other Missouri College basketball player for that matter. Well, there is one so far. Southwest Baptist’s 7-foot-2 center, Frans Steyn, signed a free agent contract to play with the San Antonio Spurs.

He’ll begin his tryout with the team playing in next month’s NBA Summer League. Steyn received calls from the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat before deciding on San Antonio as being the best choice.

The Oklahoma State transfer only played one season at SBU. Steyn has a pretty decent chance of making the club. The Spurs need a center after trading Rasho Nesterovic to Toronto and Nazr Mohammed could leave the team as a free agent.

The summer league games will be held July 14-21 as part of the Rocky Mountain Review in Salt Lake City.
