The popularity of tattoos has risen dramatically in recent years. And, along with the increased popularity comes an increase in cases of people with tattoo-related skin infections in some states. A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention points to infections in Ohio, Kentucky, and Vermont. The problems stem from people getting tattoos from unlicensed parlors and artists. There’s no indication Missouri has any widespread problems, and the Executive Director of Missouri’s Office of Tattoing, Body Piercing & Branding wants to keep it that way. Vanessa Beauchamp says tattoo parlors artists must be licensed by her office. In order to obtain a license, an artist and a parlor must submit application fees to be followed by initial inspection by state inpectors to ensure all safety precautions have been met.
