When Miles Smith finished ninth at this year’s NCAA National Meet, he figured his season would end as a disappointment. His frustrating finish was aided by a hamstring injury that will also keep him from competing in this week’s USA Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis and the World Under 23 Championships in Brazil.

Smith can hold his head a little higher today as he was selected a Division 1 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field All American by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

A gold medalist at last year’s World Championships, this is the third time Smith has been named an All American. He was an All American for the 2005 outdoor season and the 2006 indoor season.

Teammates Alonzo Nelson (400-meter hurdles), Heather Jenkins (discus), and the men’s 4X400-meter relay team of Smith, Nelson, Walter Washington, and Chris Poindexter were named to the All-Midwest Region team.
