The St. Louis Blues have their seventh owner in the team’s 39 year history. The NHL approved the sale of the team to new owner Dave Checketts, upon approval of his bank loans.

Checketts has run a few teams in the past, although maybe unsuccessfully. He was CEO of Madison Square Garden, where he operated the Knicks, Rangers, and the WNBA’s Liberty before he was let go in 2001.

Checketts’ first duty will be to assist in making the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. He’s expected to be in Vancouver with colleague Mike McCarthy for the event. It’ll be Checketts’ money that is being spent, but it won’t be him that makes the pick. General manager Larry Pleau and his assistant Jarmo Kekalainen have that responsibility.
