A Missouri Congressman says it’s time the people who get federal grants became more accountable. And, the U.S. House agrees. The House has passed Congressman Roy Blunt’s bill requiring the Office of Management and Budget to establish a searchable database available to anybody, listing who gets grants and federal loans, what they’re for, and who becomes subgrantees. He says the information is not required now, but is necessary in uncovering waste of government money or fraud. Blunt says agency inspectors general sometimes uncover problems – such as a $700,000 grant given with no explanation of how the money was to be used. He says this bill will make that kind of information available quickly to public and government inspectors alike. The Senate still has to approve his bill.
