Legal Challenge to Workers’ Comp Law Moved Back to July

June 13, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

A legal challenge to the workers’ compensation law that was passed and signed into law last year is being moved to next month. A meeting of attorneys in the case was to have taken place, on Tuesday, before Cole County Circuit Judge Byron Kinder. But shortly before the scheduled meeting, the sides informed the judge they wanted a continuance. So, the hearing has been moved to July 18th. The plaintiffs, representing a number of unions and other interested parties, claim the legislation takes away rights that workers have earned over the years. They want the law struck down as unconstitutional. Attorneys representing the state claim the law is completely constitutional, and that the Legislature is within its right to make changes to workers’ comp rules.
