Mizzou’s Best Season Ever Comes To An End

June 12, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Mizzou’s baseball team went further into the post season than any other team in school history. For the first time ever, MU advanced to the Super Regional. But like all good things, this season had to come to an end. The Tigers were eliminated from the NCAA Super Regionals losing to Cal State Fullerton 9-1 Saturday. The Host Titans won the best-of-three series (2-0) to advance to the College World Series in Omaha, NE.

The Tigers almost ended their season without a hit. Titans starter Lauren Gagnier had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning. Senior J.C. Fields erased all doubts with a two out homer in the eighth. Evan Frey and Trevor Helms both singled in the inning giving Mizzou a season low three hits in the game.

Nathan Culp started the game for the Tigers allowing seven runs – four earned – on eight hits in 6.2 innings.

MU finished the year 35-28.
