Horses in the Belmont Stakes will be running in hopes of winning the $1 million prize set for Saturday.

That prize, could very well find itself in Missouri. Springfield residents Robert and Lawana Low, owners of Steppenwolfer, are hoping they can collect the hefty sum as a return on their investment. The couple bought the horse a year ago for $375,000 which is a little more than one-third of the winnings.

In order for the colt to bring home a fortune, he better be in excellent shape. At 1 ½ miles, the Belmont is the longest of the Triple Crown races. Steppenwolfer is a 9-2 favorite the third best bet to win it. He’ll be breaking from the No.11 post in the 12 horse field. In the Kentucky Derby, Steppenwolfer finished third.
