With controversy about some of his campaign donations increasing, Attorney General Jay Nixon has decided to give the money back. Nixon says he will return more than $19,000 to the political committees that donated it to his campaign treasury. The money is from AmerenUE, a company Nixon is investigating in the wake of the Taum Sauk Reservoir collapse last year. Nixon’s client, the Department of Natural Resources, has demanded he recuse himself from the investigation because of the donations. Nixon has refused to do so. A spokesman for his campaign committee says there has been no impropriety in taking donations from local political party committees.
