Skelton Concerned With Lack of Information on National Guard’s Mission

June 7, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

West central Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton says a real lack of information to the Missouri National Guard and Congress seems to be an unsettling fact of how the Guard’s deployments to the border with Mexico seem to be going. Skelton says he was shocked last week when he asked the chief of the Border Patrol whether he had asked for the additional agents Congress had authorized some time back. He had not. Skelton says maybe the Border Patrol just figures the Guard will do the job. And, Skelton says no one at the Pentagon has told him about the overall game plan for Guardsmen going to the border, and what they will be doing once they get there. The ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee says it’s just like Iraq: no plan for what to do once the military gets there.
