The Cleveland Indians made a tremendous run at the end of last season. The attention caused many teams to take a long look at the Indians free agents. One of those teams was the Royals. Two of the most sought after players from last year’s Indians squad were pitchers Scott Elarton and Kevin Millwood. Both pitchers faced each other in Tuesday’s game between the Royals and Rangers. One of them is having a decent season and won the game. The other has struggled all year and lost the game. Guess which one plays for the Royals.

Ok, that was too easy. But here’s the answer just in case. Scott Elarton started on the mound for the Royals in their 6-2 loss to the Rangers. The former Indian-turned-Royal is 1-7 on the year with a 5.09 ERA. Millwood, on the other hand, is 7-3 and pitches for a team in first place in their division.

Things started off on the wrong foot for the worst team in baseball. Kansas City didn’t arrive from Seattle until 4am. They obviously didn’t get enough snores before losing the opener of a six game home stand.

Part of the reason Millwood got the win was because he actually received some support from his teammates. Brad Wilkerson homered along with Ian Kinsler. Kevin Mench chipped in with a two-run double that spear-headed an offense that produced 11 hits.

Elarton worked just five innings giving up four runs on eight hits. Denny Bautista relieved Elarton. It was his first appearance out the bullpen since losing his spot in the starting rotation. Bautista stayed in the game for three innings, but not without being touched. Texas let him feel their presence immediately. A double by Gerald Laird only preceded a two-run homer by Kinsler.

Mark Teahen was about the only bright spot for the Royals. He had two of their nine hits and drove in both of their runs. He followed up an RBI single in the second with a home run in the fourth

The Royals are 14-42 and have dropped eight straight at home. Earlier in the season, their woes were subject to road games only. Lately, the plague has followed them home.
