To the frontiersman, the rifle was his life. It brought him his food. It protected him from danger. He could lose everything but as long as he had a rifle he could get it all back – his clothes, shelter, money from the sale of skins. When the frontier began to open west of the Mississippi, those who went into it quickly learned they needed a gun hefty enough to do the job. The result was a rifle made in Missouri by two brothers.
