Governor Matt Blunt today will sign the sex offender bill approved by the Legislature this year. Blunt is holding several unofficial signing ceremonies throguhout the state, but will sign the real bill early this afternoon in his Capitol office. This is Missouri’s version of Jessica’s Law, the law approved in Florida following the rape and murder of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford. Blunt acknowledges he worried that the bill wouldn’t make it through the session. The main portion of the bill creates a mandatory prison sentence of 30 years for anyone convicted of raping a child 12-years-old or younger.
