Convicted Killer Claims He Didn’t Get Fair Trial

May 30, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Convicted murderer Gary Black has sent a letter to the Joplin Globe saying he did not get a fair trial the second time he was sentenced to death because the court would not let him represent himself. Black has told the newspaper he should have been allowed to do that because of a 1975 case in the United States Supreme Court. Black has been sentenced to death, again, for a fatal stabbing in Joplin in 1998. The State Supreme Court overturned his first conviction and death sentence. [Joplin Globe]
