ACLU Calls on AG to Investigate Phone Surveillance

May 24, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The American Civil Liberties Union says Missouri telephone companies are refusing to say whether they have given personal phone information to the National Security Agency. Western District Director Brett Shirk says it’s illegal spying. He wants Attorney General Nixon to investigate the phone companies to see if they’ve cooperated with the NSA. Shirk says the ACLU does not want to obstruct legitimate law enforcement. But it is concerned about possible violations of the constitutional rights of privacy and due process.
