The number of people dying on Missouri’s roads is on the rise – and so is the death rate. Captain Chris Ricks with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says there were more people involved in fatal crashes in 2005 than there were in 2004, but the the number of deaths per 100-Million miles traveled is up from 1.7 to 1.8, and Ricks says that’s a greater indication we are headed in the wrong direction. Ricks says behavior has a lot to do with the increase in the death rate, and he points to speeding combined with a greater volume of traffic.
