As the final gavel came down on the legislative session, Republicans and Democrats in the Missouri Senate offer different views whether the session was a success. The curtain has come down on the 2006 session of the General Assembly, with Senate Republicans claiming it has been a successful four-and-a-half months. Senate Leader Michael Gibbons of Kirkwood points to successes that include eminent domain reform, Jessica’s Law – which will help protect young children from sexual predators, and election ethics reforms. Senate Democratic Leader Maida Coleman of St. Louis dismisses those claims of success. As for election ethics reforms, she gives the idea the thumbs down. Democrats also blast the voter ID reform bill, saying it is flagrantly poor legislating, adding Republicans are trying to keep people from voting.
