The University of Missouri will install collapsible goalposts beginning with the 2006 season. After each game, the posts will be brought down in case fans should enter on to the playing area in hopes of taking posts. It would take at least 15 seconds to bring the goalposts to the ground.

The move is an effort to improve safety on the field. The thought is that it would keep fans from climbing onto the goalposts. Security will be more strictly enforced at games beginning in 2006. The uprights will also be shortened from 30-feet tall to 20-feet tall.
