Missourians could see as many as six initiatives on the November ballot. By Sunday’s 5pm deadline for submitting signatures to the Secretary of State’s Office for verification, supporters of a half dozen of the initiatives had handed in their petitions. Stacie Temple with the Secretary’s Office says six is more than we usually see. The signatures will have to be verified in a process that includes local election authorities from throughout the state and must be completed by August 8th. Approximately 145,000 valid signatures from at least six Congressional districts are needed. The six issues that made Sunday’s deadline are proposals dealing with stem cell research, restoring Medicaid cuts, raising the minimum wage, increasing tobacco taxes, severely restricting use of eminent domain, and restricting the growth of government spending. The last two were delivered just minutes before 5pm.
