The death of legislation to allow for the sale of assets of the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority does not mean the idea is dead. Far from it, in fact. Governor Matt Blunt is making it clear he’s ready to move forward with the proposal by working with the Board of MOHELA to take it upon itself to sell off assets to provide funding for higher education. Blunt says that while the initial effort involved the Legislature, Friday’s death of the MOHELA bill in the General Assembly ushers in the next effort to achieve his desired goal. He insists there is no legal requirement for the MOHELA Board to involve the Legislature in this plan.
