Sprinfield Loses, Moves Back Into First Place Tie

May 5, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The Springfield Cardinals blew a 4-1 lead and lost to Corpus Christi 8-5 at Hammons Field in Springfield. The Cardinals put three on the board with Jarrett bases-loaded triple. In the third Reid Gorecki led off the inning with his 10th home run, which leads the minors. That made it 3-1 Springfield.

But the Hooks responded with three runs of their own on three hits and an error to grab a 4-3 lead. Ben Zorbist’s home run in the top of the fifth gave Corpus Christi a 6-3 advantage.

Cardinals’ starter Chris Lambert (2-3) allowed seven runs—five earned—over five innings to get the loss. Hooks’ pitcher Matt Albers (4-1) was the winner in five innings of work. The loss dropped Springfield back into a tie with Tulsa for the lead in the Texas League North. Both teams are 16-11.
