The Springfield Cardinals couldn’t figure out San Antonio Missions starter Ryan Feierband. Through six innings he allowed just three hits, two walks and a single run. Springfield seemed destined to end the night with a loss and a bunch of unused bats. But the Cardinals were the beneficiary of a bullpen that didn’t live up to the San Antonio starter’s early dominance in a 4-2 win over the Missions.

Springfield got some good news in the top of the seventh when Feierband was replaced with reliever Mike Flannery, who sandwiched a strikeout between three walks to load the bases. He was replaced by Craig James who recorded the second out of the inning by striking out Springfield short stop, Mike McCoy. But the balls kept coming for the Missions, as James walked Reid Gorecki to tie the game at 2-2. Up next was left fielder Cody Haerther, who singled one run and another score came around when second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir reached home on a throwing error by Missions’ second baseman Michael Garciaparra. That made it 4-2.

Springfield starter Rich Rundles (2-1) lasted seven innings and allowed two runs off five hits and two walks to get the win. Reliever Mark Worrell got his sixth save.
