Attorney General Jay Nixon is expected to appeal the decison of a Jefferson City judge that the Attorney General has no legal authority to block demolition of an old railroad bridge in Boonville. The Department of Natural Resources has agreed to allow Union Pacific to tear down the bridge. The railroad wants to use the steel to build a new bridge near Jefferson City. Nixon stepped in, arguing that the bridge is historic and could be used in the future to extend the Katy Trail.
