The St. Louis Cardinals were one win away from their first sweep at their brand new ballpark. Greg Maddux had other ideas. Maddux tossed seven shutout innings as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-3 on Sunday. Maddux allowed just five hits and struck out four batters. He improved to 4-0 for the first time in six years and lowered his ERA to 0.99. Maddux has given up just one run in 13 1/3 innings against the Cardinals this season. Jacque Jones and Aramis Ramirez both homered for Chicago. Jason Marquis took the loss. He gave up seven runs in six innings. Only four runs were earned thanks to three St. Louis errors.
