The Springfield Cardinals couldn’t overcome a 6-0 deficit and lost to Wichita 7-5 in Springfield Tuesday night. The Wranglers roughed up the Cardinals for five runs in the third inning, to expand on a 1-0 lead. Mitch Maier blasted a three-run homer off Springfield starter Chris Lambert (1-1), who never made it out of the third inning.

Maier was a double short of hitting for the cycle and drove in four runs.

The Cardinals cut the Wranglers’ lead to one in the fourth inning. Down 6-1, Springfield rallied for four runs thanks to an RBI double from Brian Martin and a three run homer from Iker Franco. That made it 6-5, but Springfield couldn’t get any closer.
