Charges Filed Against Couple in Sextuplet Hoax

April 15, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The Grain Valley couple who made up a story about having sextuplets now face charges of using the hoax to rake in money from those wanting to help. Sarah and Kris Everson are accused of stealing by deceit. If convicted, each could be sentenced to seven years in prison. The two were arraigned Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court. Authorities say the pair took in about $3,500 in donations from organizations and individuals. Prosecutor Mike Sanders says the dollar amount could be much higher. He adds the charges would be upgraded if more duped people come forward and the amount of money obtained fraudulently exceeds $25,000.
