The Kansas City Royals suffered a sweep by the Yankees and dropped their fourth straight game with a 9-3 loss on Thursday afternoon. Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi and Johnny Damon all hit home runs in the win for New York. Sheffield’s solo home run got the Yankees on the board in the first. Giambi launched a two-run shot and Johnny Damon hit a three-run homer, as the two drove in all five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Damon finished with four RBI’s.

The Royals runs were the result of Shane Costa’s RBI single in the fifth, Tony Graffanino’s homer in the eighth and Esteban German’s RBI double in the ninth.

Royals’ starting pitcher Denny Bautista (0-1) was charged with the loss in a five-inning performance. He allowed four earned runs off six hits and a walk. He struck out seven batters in the loss.

Randy Johnson (2-1) also lasted five innings and he gave up one run off four hits. He had no walks and five strikeouts.

The Royals are now 2-6.
