A Lake of the Ozarks real estate developer who allegedly hired illegal aliens faces tax-related criminal charges. Attorney General Jay Nixon’s office has joined forces with the Camden County Prosecuting Attorney in charging developer Michael G. Schlup of Leawood, Kansas, with more than a dozen counts of failure to withhold and pay employer taxes. Nixon says word of the illegality came to light after authorities learned of a construction site death last year. Nixon says about 30 to 35 illegals had been hired to work on a luxury condominium complex at the Lake. He says workers were recruited through advertisements running on Spanish-language radio stations in the Kansas City area.
