The recruiting site Powermizzou.com is reporting that Melvin Watkins will remain an assistant on the University of Missouri basketball team. This news is twice as good for MU because New Jersey prep star, Keon Lawrence will apparently follow through on his verbal commitment to MU. Derrick Butler, Lawrence’s coach at Weequahic High School in Newark, New Jersey , told the site that Watkins had been retained and that Lawrence will be a Tiger. Lawrence wasn’t going to go to MU unless Watkins, who recruited him, remained on staff.

Butler also informed Powermizzou.com that Lawrence has been academically cleared to play.

As a senior, Lawrence averaged 31.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game, leading his team to a 24-3 record. Lawrence was named a first-team all-state selection in New Jersey.

Mike Anderson is expected to make a formal announcement concerning his staff later this week.

Ty Morrison, who averaged 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game at Redlands Community College (Ok.), has told the recruiting site Powermizzou.com that he wants out of his letter of intent to play at MU.
